Rare Nikon Nikkor-Q 20cm f4 - Excellent

Rare early version with no hood lock and engraved PAT PEND

Anyone familiar with early Nikkors will know there is no "tick mark" Nikkor-Q 20cm lens, but if there were, this would be one of them. This lens was made in the first run of lenses with the focus scale in feet only, engraved "PAT. PEND." and manufactured without a hood lock. What is the hood lock? It is a small chrome "button" on the hood, housing a spring-loaded ball. The ball clicks into a recess on the barrel when the hood is fully extended effectively locking it in place. The lock was added only after a few hundred lenses had been produced. Although this lens lacks a lock, the hood stays firmly in place when extended. The serial number is 169674, making this just the 464th lens produced. It was made in late 1961.

The 200mm f4 was one of the most popular telephoto lenses for the Nikon F and Nikkormat cameras during the 1960s, offering a long focal length and good performance in a compact package. It is the longest lens accepting 52mm filters, the standard size for most Nikon lenses making an excellent addition to any Nikon kit.

Glass: Like new - no dust, haze or fungus, coatings in perfect condition.
Cosmetics: Excellent - minor wear on the points of the focus ring, and light scratches here and there, but the appearance is generally clean.
Mechanics: Perfect - focus is smooth, aperture ring with distinct and even clicks, aperture blades clean and snappy, clean filter threads, no wear on mount. Hood slides out smoothly and firmly.
Compatibility: This lens is not Ai modified. It is fully compatible with Nikon F, F2 and Nikkormat cameras. Fits EL2, FT3, FE, FM, F3 and F4 with stop-down metering. Fits D40, D60, D3000 and D5000 but metering is not available. Will not fit other Nikon cameras.
Accessories: Original Nikon front cap.
